The Show
Friends began on September 22, 1994 in the US and ran for 10 years with the show's finale airing on May 6, 2004. In all there were 10 seasons and a total of 236 episodes. Mostly shot in Los Angeles and New York the cast and crew also ventured to cities such as Las Vegas and London.
Although centered around the 6 brilliant main characters the show also featured many famous guest stars including Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Danny DeVito, Donny Osmond, Brooke Shields and Julia Roberts amongst many others. A few familiar faces also became regular characters such as Tom Selleck (Richard) and Elliot Gould (Jack Geller) supporting the main cast fantastically.
The show was (and still is) a global success winning many awards during its run, including an Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series, and six consecutive People's Choice Awards for Favorite Television Comedy Series. The cast have also had many award nominations but their loyalty and cohesiveness was illustrated by their regular requests to either all be nominated in a particular category (usually supporting actor) or not at all. This was also illustrated by their insistance on collective salary negotiations. By the end of the run each star was earning US$1,000,000 per episode and a 30 second slot in the ad break of the season finale, viewed by over 52 million people, was set at $£2,000,000 in the US! Phenominal sums of money but a clear demonstration of the show's success.
